The short answer
A rechargeable vaper doesn't have one lifespan — it has four, and they're all different. The battery lasts years, a charge lasts a day, the coil lasts weeks and the liquid lasts days.

Almost every "it barely lasted" complaint is one of these four things mistaken for another. Here's each one separately.
How long does the battery last?
Two different things share the same name here.
Runtime is how long it goes between charges: normally one to two days in a pocket device, less if you vape heavily or the device is small.
Service life is how many times you can recharge it before it starts losing capacity. The lithium batteries in these devices handle roughly 300 to 500 full cycles. At one charge a day, that's one to two years before you notice it holding less than when it was new.
That's the real difference from a disposable: a disposable gets thrown away when the liquid runs out, even though the battery was still perfectly fine. A rechargeable keeps going.
Making it last longer
- Don't leave it at 0% for days
- Don't habitually leave it charging overnight
- Keep it out of a hot car — heat degrades it faster than anything else
- Use a normal USB-C charger, not a fast-charge phone brick
How long does one charge last?
Between one and two days with average use. A pod-style device charges fully in 30 to 60 minutes over USB-C.
If yours dies in half a day, it's almost always one of three things: you're vaping more than you think, the coil is worn and drawing more power, or the battery already has a lot of cycles on it.
How long does a coil last?
Between one and three weeks. It's the part that gets replaced most and the one most people forget about.
A coil is a metal filament wrapped in cotton that heats the liquid. The cotton saturates and burns with use, and once that happens the flavour drops off sharply.
Signs it needs changing
- A burnt taste — the clearest sign, and it can't be fixed
- Flavour goes flat or muted
- Less vapour at the same wattage
- Gurgling, or liquid in the mouthpiece
What shortens coil life: very sweet liquids (dessert and sugary fruit flavours leave residue), vaping with the tank nearly empty, and not waiting a few minutes after fitting a new coil before the first puff.

How long does the liquid or pod last?
A 2 ml pod gives around 600 puffs, which at normal use is one to three days. The 2 ml figure isn't arbitrary: it's the legal maximum in Spain for nicotine products under Real Decreto 579/2017.

Advertised puffs are not real puffs
This explains most of the disappointment, and hardly anyone mentions it.
Puff counts are measured by laboratory machines: one-second puffs with thirty-second pauses between them. A real person takes two-to-four-second puffs and waits considerably less.
The result: a device advertised at 600 puffs typically delivers 300 to 500 in real use. The ratio holds across every format and every brand. It isn't false advertising — it's a measurement standard — but it's worth knowing before you buy.

How long does it take to charge?
30 to 60 minutes over USB-C on a pod device. Larger batteries can take up to 90 minutes.
Can I use it while it charges?
Many USB-C models allow it (pass-through), but it isn't ideal: it heats the battery and shortens its life. Better to wait.
Why does it taste burnt when the coil is new?
Almost certainly you didn't prime it. After fitting a new coil, wait 5 to 10 minutes with liquid in it before the first puff. If it fires dry, the cotton burns and there's no fixing it.
Is a rechargeable cheaper than a disposable?
Yes, as soon as you're past very occasional use. A disposable is thrown away whole every one to three days. With a rechargeable you only replace the pod or the coil, and the device lasts one to two years.
How long does a vaper last unused?
Liquid in a sealed pod keeps well for around two years. The battery self-discharges slowly: if you're storing it for months, leave it at about half charge, not empty and not full.
